Structural Health Monitoring in Buildings

Building Structural Health Monitoring (SHM) is a vital discipline in civil engineering, focusing on assessing and monitoring the safety, condition, and performance of structures like buildings and bridges. SHM uses real-time data, including factors like vibrations and strains, to detect issues, predict problems, and inform maintenance decisions for these structures, ensuring their longevity and safety in an ever-advancing technological landscape.

SHM Algorithm

In recent years, the concept of Structural Health Monitoring (SHM) has gradually emerged. This involves using acceleration sensors to measure structural vibration information. The proposed algorithm is based on the Ormsby wavelet filter to calculate inter-story drift ratio (IDR), and is combined with HAZUS damage indices to provide users with a basis for structural damage detection.
