Enhancing Dam Safety Through Structural Health Monitoring

Dams are critical infrastructure, but their safety is of utmost concern due to potential risks to communities and the environment. Structural Health Monitoring (SHM) is essential for real-time assessment, using sensors to detect issues in dam structures and ensure timely maintenance. This discussion explores the importance of SHM in enhancing dam safety and preventing catastrophic failures.

SHM Algorithm

In recent years, the concept of Structural Health Monitoring (SHM) has gradually emerged. This involves using acceleration sensors to measure structural vibration information. The proposed algorithm is based on the Ormsby wavelet filter to calculate inter-story drift ratio (IDR), and is combined with HAZUS damage indices to provide users with a basis for structural damage detection.
